8 week old puppy -- Need advice?

I just took this 8 week old puppy in, as the owner was gonna just let it go to the shelter. I brought it home and have kept it inside until its vaccinations. Tomorrow he is getting his first round of vaccinations and I am sure another round in a few weeks. I have a trip to Chicago scheduled for June 20th where I will be driving. I have two options -- To either board him at the vet (10 days) , or I can take him on a road trip. I just recently moved out to California and am driving back to get my other dog (6 year old) and then driving back to Cali. My older dog is vaccinated and so is my moms back in Chicago. Would it be okay to take him with on the road trip? I would hate to board him at such a young age, especially when I only took him in 1 week ago. If anyone can help, please give me some advice. I would love to take him with me!!!
