Can you over-vaccinate a puppy?

I am getting a 9 week old puppy on Sunday, and the woman claims that the pup is dewormed and has had first set of shots. I am skeptical and don't really know whether to believe her or not because she doesn't have proof of the shots. Should I go ahead and schedule her to get more shots after I get her or should I wait?
